reflections on 5 years of The Good Rooms
Next weekend we celebrate the five-year anniversary of The Good Rooms. It’s been a hell of a ride.
We first brought hot yoga to Muswell Hill in January 2019. Two and half years later we became The Good Rooms and, as an independent studio, we have been able to respond to the needs and tastes of our local community.
For many people a trip to The Good Rooms is the highlight of their day or their week, and I feel incredibly lucky to have had The Good Rooms as my place of work for all these years. It’s a place where people walk in happy and walk out even happier.
When we first found the empty spot at the top of the Hill, it was an empty shell without so much as a tap. You put in taps, doors and lights and hope people come but we were not prepared for how the studio took on a life of its own as our community grew.
We know about some of the friendships made here and the thousands of people who have walked through our doors with a commitment to be healthier, stronger and happier. I’m sure there are countless friendships made and relationships started within these walls that we have no idea of.
We have always had an incredible team running the studio, many of them behind the scenes like our Head Teacher and Class Scheduler, Amanda Joseph, who keeps the place going day after day.
Our reception team never ceases to amaze me and working with our entire team, not least our incredible Studio Manager, Camila Pimentel, has been one of life’s great privileges.
Our roster of inspiring, caring and learned teachers is the reason people keep coming back to our classes. One hopes that after spending so much time in this environment of people dedicated to wellness and good health, that eventually the goodness will rub off. I certainly hope so.
I have so many wonderful memories of the past few years at The Good Rooms and I know there are lots more to come. The most treasured memories are often when someone shares the details of their journey with us since first coming to The Good Rooms. Sometimes it’s a journey of physical rehabilitation and strengthening that they may have been putting off for some time; sometimes it’s one of emotional healing or spiritual awakening.
When people share their stories with us, it’s a humbling experience and we are reminded again of how lucky we are to spend so much time at The Good Rooms.
Thank you for being part of this community over the past five years. Here’s to the next five years of journeys: of inspiration and dedication, of healing, strengthening, awakening and friendship.
We hope to see you soon at the top of The Hill.
